A little taste of ‘The Irish House’ at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games

February 14, 2010 Leave a comment

Canadian spirit was in full swing as the first day of competition in the Vancouver 2010 Olympics got under way.

My friends and I went down to Waterfront station to check out the Olympic flame’s resting place. It was raining a little, but the number of people there taking pictures etc. was unreal. We then made our way over toward Steamworks to “German House”. It was a huge line up but we were in within 5-10 minutes. After a quick pint and a few German beer drinking songs, we decided to make our way back toward Granville St.

Next, we hit ‘Irish House’ and it was hard to leave. When we arrived, there was probably 200 people inside. It was about a 30 minute wait that was well worth it. The crowd continued to pour in and the Canadian Women’s Hockey Team continued to pour in the goals in an absolute romping. With each goal came cheers but they certainly didn’t match the cheers for the women’s moguls. By the end of the hockey game, the number of people inside was closer to 700 and the mood was very jovial:) Here’s a quick video to give you a taste. GO CANADA GO !!

Avatar. My first movie review.

On pace to shatter pretty much every record ever, I thought I’d check out the hype that is James Cameron’s “Avatar”. I actually heard about Avatar a long time ago as the buzz on the internet has been crazy for some time.

I love going to the movies. I’m caught up in the excitement the second I walk in and smell the popcorn, but this time was different. This was 3-D. I was pumped. Imagine my excitement when I realized that 3-D glasses were no longer cheap flimsy cardboard with blue and red lenses, but rather a sleek black pair that make you look like Marty Scorcese (minus the eyebrows of course).

Avatar was pretty good in that it was 3-D and it was different, but the movie itself was a little predictable and a little copy-catish. There were a few times throughout the flick that I had flashes of other movies including Terminator, Jurassic Park, Robocop and of course the Matrix. That’s the great thing about this movie however, is that it is like 4 or 5 amazing movies all wrapped into one. If you haven’t been to see it (and you probably have) I certainly suggest that you do. Avatar is on it’s own level in terms of movies but on a 4 star scale I give it a 3 1/2. Predictability is no fun and it could have done without the cheezy military explosions. All in all a great experience:)

New York Jets!!

Perusing the internet the other day, I came across my old blog that I thought was shut down.  I considered forwarding the address to my current blog at wesleybehan.com but then I decided to keep it, change the look and use it as a personal blog separate from my work site.

With that comes a new post.  What to write about?  Well this time of year, my weekends are usually consumed by NFL Football.   Yesterday, my beloved Jets played their hearts out and made a heck of a game out of the AFC Championship.  After leading 17-13 at the half, the Jets just couldn’t seem to keep it going in the 2nd half and the powerful Colts offense took over.

The Jets played beyond everyone’s expectations and made it deep into the playoffs with a rookie running back, rookie quarterback and a new coach.   Their defense was tops of the league this year and I think the team has a bright future ahead.

The Superbowl is now set.  With the win over the Jets, the Colts will advance to play the New Orleans Saints who defeated Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings in overtime in the night game.  You can bet I’ll be cheering for the Saints and I am already looking forward to next year.  I will miss you football.  See you soon.

Behan Family Sun Run Challenge

March 10, 2009 2 comments

famAs some of you may know, the annual Vancouver Sun Run is fast approaching.  It takes place April 19th this year and a large turnout is expected once again.

My older brother and younger sister (yes I’m in the middle) have challenged me to a race.  Seeing as they easily completed last year’s Vancouver half marathon (26km) it likely won’t be much of a “challenge” (to them anyway).  I think the “challenge” was for me to actually show up, compete and finish the race.  So far, it’s been really good for me.  I have been taking my training seriously and I am looking forward to the run.

I wish I could say that I expect to finish 3rd place in my family, but I’m pretty sure that my mom who is taking part in the sun run for the 18th straight year is likely to whoop me too.

With my “large” (no pun intended) disadvantage, we decided to make things more interesting.  Each of my siblings and I have chosen respective charities to raise pledges for leading up to the event, as a challenge to see which of us could raise the most pledges for a great cause.  This “challenge”, I may have a chance at, but I need your help.   I have chosen “B.C. Children’s Hospital” and “The Children’s Miracle Network”.  RE/MAX has raised over $85 million dollars for this charity over the years, so it was an easy choice.

If you are participating in the Sun Run as well, and you would like to help in raising some pledges, let me know and I will get you a pledge form asap.

If you are intersted in making a donation to the Children’s Miracle Network and making my day, you can mail a cheque directly to my office :

c/0 B.C. Children’s Hospital Foundation

Mail to – RE/MAX Central (attention Wesley) #1-5050 Kingsway Burnaby, B.C. V5H 4C2 – A tax receipt will be provided.

Thank you for your support.  If you can not afford to make a pledge, you can always come out to the run on the 19th and give us your support.  I will need all the help I can get starting around the half way mark=P

Globe and Mail Real Estate Article.

June 22, 2007 1 comment

It was a great honour to be published in our National newspaper once again this month.  The Globe and Mail Real Estate section published an aditorial piece about one of my recent sales.   It was a really great article, and it is just one more of the services and means of advertising that I can now offer to my clients, to help them get the exposure they deserve when selling their home.  The Real Estate section of the Globe is primarily for keeping the general public informed of what is happening in our local Real Estate Market.   It goes into detail about the property, the location and also details of the transaction and how it was purchased.  The Globe and Mail is a fantastic publication, and I feel very priviledged to have wesleybehan.com in one of their issues.   To check out the article, simply CLICK HERE.   For more information and pictures of the house, you can visit www.wesleybehan.com/17

Burnaby Real Estate Bus Bench

August 30, 2006 4 comments

My first “bus bench” advertisement went up this past week. I want to thank my good friend Rob Masefield for doing the design. We wanted to create a design that was different from every other bench in Burnaby, and I think it was a tremendous success. The bench is situated in the “Forest Hills” area of North Burnaby, where I specialize in the sale of town-homes. Shouldn’t be long before I have a nice mustache:)

Globe and Mail

The “Globe and Mail” newspaper recently decided to do an aditorial piece on one of my townhome listings. It was part of a real estate section aimed at informing purchasers and vendors of trends in the local market. It was really exciting to be published in Canada’s National newspaper.

Sky Lounge in Kelowna !!

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to go to Kelowna with my good friend Jeff Leyland (The Team 1040 sports talk radio), and 3 of his friends that I can now call my own. I got most of my work out of the way early so most of the weekend was spent in the sun golfing and wakeboarding. We also got the chance to catch a comedy show featuring one of Vancouver’s funniest comedians Richard Lett. You can check out more photos of our trip on Richards blog. The trip was so much fun and I’m already looking forward to next year. Thanks Jeff.
